Song of the Day: Major Lazer - Jah No Partial (Yellow Claw & Yung Felix Remix)
Song of the day goes to Major Lazer because I'm going to his concert tonight wooo!!!! Major Lazer is a musical project by DJ/producer Diplo. Formerly a collaboration along with DJ/producer Switch, they parted ways in late 2011. Diplo has since enlisted producers/DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire (of Black Chiney). He is a mash up of electronic music and reggae which is wickedly innovative.

Chris Brown and Rihanna getting married in July?
http://www.opposingviews.com/i/entertainment/rihanna-and-chris-brown-getting-married-july#
Apparently all the speculation surrounding the flashy diamond ring that appeared on Rihanna’s finger last week is true. Chris Brown and Rihanna are getting married. Or at least that’s what some news outlets are reporting.
According to PerezHilton.com, the two are planning a ceremony in Rihanna’s home country of Barbados in late July 2013 and an unidentified source already has information about the wedding, saying that it’s going to be “all about swagger, bling and sin.”
Nice.
“They want tattoo artists, fire breathers and a near-naked waitstaff,” the source also said. “They’re even talking about having pre-rolled joints at the reception.”
Chris Brown’s recent statement that his assault against Rihanna in February 2009 is the “deepest regret of his life” must really have Rihanna believing that he is a changed man. Of course, she was already hooking up with him before that statement, but still.
Not surprisingly, only those who also believe Brown is a changed man will be invited to the wedding. It will probably be a small ceremony.
I think he hit her hard in the head.

Oscars : Jennifer Lawrence Clips Funny
It seems that Jennifer Lawrence is the new "it" girl. But it's not only because of her recent success or good looks, it's because she is absolutely hilarious. She is so down to earth and her humor is so natural. I think her next movie should be a comedy. We'll be seeing her around for a while.

Gene Therapy Cures Diabetic Dogs
Gene therapy cures diabetic dogs - health - 12 February 2013 - New Scientist
Another step closer to curing type 1 diabetes in humans! A study on 5 diabetic dogs showed that after been given 2 extra genes, they no longer needed insulin injections. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which insulin secreting cells are destroyed. The way that the gene therapy works is that two genes are injected into the dogs muscle by a harmless virus to replace the damaged pancreatic beta cells. One of the genes produces the insulin and the other determines how much glucose should be absorbed into the muscles. Dogs that only received one of the genes remained diabetic so both are needed for the treatment to work. More evidence is needed to be tested in humans.

First Black Woman to Earn a M.D.
Song of the Day: Erykah Badu - Bag Lady Remix
This message is powerful! Erykah Badu is using a bag lady (homeless woman that carries around all her belongings) as an analogy for someone who has issues be they with relationships, drugs, or family and is hurting themselves by not resolving their problems. Pack light and let them problems go... the lyrcal prose is brilliant!

First Formal Protest Against Slavery
Today in black history, was the first formal protest against slavery, organized by four Quakers in Germantown, Pennsylvania on behalf of Religous Society of Friends. Quakers at monthly meeting. In the document the Quakers use the Golden Rule to argue against such inhumane treatment of their fellow man regardless of the color of their skin, "we shall doe to all men licke as we will be done ourselves; macking no difference of what generation, descent or Colour they are." Seeing the injustices of the slave trade they courageously took a stand against slavery based on their religious and moral beliefs. The language and spelling used in this early protest reflect the German descent of its' signers as their English was lacking, but their message was strong.

Ash Wednesday: Lent
Today is Ash Wednesday marking the beginning of lent, which is 40 days before Easter. The 40 days according to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, Jesus spent fasting in the desert before the beginning of his public ministry, where he endured temptation by the Devil. Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. I think this is a good holiday even if you're not of Christian faith because many people give up bad habits during this 40 day period and studies have shown that it takes 21 - 28 days to break a habit. I have had Muslim friends that participated and lent and quit smoking. It's a good way to refresh your New years resolutions!!!
Champions League Round of 16 Games Day 2
Today is the second day of the round of 16 Champions league games. The match we have been waiting for is Real Madrid vs Manchester United. I think Real Madrid slightly have better team plus home field but Manchester United have been on fire in the EPL. The other game will be Shakhtar vs Dortmund. My predictions are Real Madrid and a tie, even though I am a Manchester United fan =(

Black History: NAACP is Founded
The National Association for The Advancement of Colored People is a civil rights organization founded in 1909 by 60 black and white citizens. It is the nation's largest and strongest civil rights organization. It helps prevent unjust acts, and set equality for all minorities. The NAACP's principal objective is to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of minority group citizens of United States and eliminate race prejudice. North Korea Nuclear Test
Yesterday, on February 11, North Korea carried out its first nuclear test under the North's young leader, Kim Jong Un. Seismic activity had been picked up by the US geological survey which located quakes of magnitude 4.9 on the Richter scale. The North Korean agency said the test had been in response to "outrageous" US hostility that "violently" undermined the regime's right to peacefully launch satellites – a reference to the condemnation and tighter sanctions that greeted Pyongyang's successful rocket launch almost two months ago. China (North Korea's ally) along with the U.N. are condemning the test. The US, South Korea, Japan and European nations are expected to meet for further sanctions. North Korea "does not and will not benefit from violating international law," said Susan Rice, American Ambassador to the United Nations, who stressed that the country has "isolated and impoverished its people from its ill-advised pursuit" of weapons of mass destruction and weapons delivery systems. I believe North Korea should have the right to build nuclear weapons for protection purposes (as the US has them), but their hostile mentality towards the rest of the rest of the world is unsettling. I hope this does not end up in a WW III.
Mardi Gras: Fat Tuesday
Today is Mardi gras day, a Christian holiday and popular cultural phenomenon dating back thousands of years to pagan spring and fertility rites. Mardi gras is French for Fat Tuesday, referring to the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which begins on Ash Wednesday. Also known as Carnival, it is celebrated in many countries around the world–mainly those with large Roman Catholic populations–on the day before the religious season of Lent begins. Brazil, Venice and New Orleans play host to some of the holiday's most famous public festivities, drawing thousands of tourists and revelers every year.

THE NFL : A Bad Lip Reading
So this is what they are really saying. LOL
Pope Benedict XVI Resigns
Pope Benedict XVI says he will resign on February 28 making him the first Pope to step down in almost 700 years. The 85-year-old Pope said his health is the reason.
The last Pop to quit in office was Pope Gregory XII, who stepped down involuntarily in 1415 to end a schism (division between people) in the church. The last time a pope stepped down voluntarily was in 1294, when Celestine V quit after 5 months because he was overwhelmed by the demands of the post.
A new leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Roman Catholics could be elected as soon as Palm Sunday, on March 24, and be ready to take over by Easter a week later.
Pope Benedict states, "...both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me."
Sr. Mary Theresa of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist responds; “Pope John Paul II remained in office so that he might show us how to suffer and how to die. Pope Benedict XVI is leaving the Papal Office so that he might show us how to live in humble honesty.”

Black History: Civil Rights Act of 1964
February 10 - 1964,
After 10 days of debate and voting on 125 amendments, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by a vote of 290-130. It was not a law yet but merely passed to the senate. On June 19, 1964, the bill was passed by the Senate (73-27), approved by both houses of Congress, and signed into law on July 2, 1964. The bill prohibited any state or local government or public facility from denying access to anyone because of race or ethnic origin.

Bug Turns Environment to Gold
Bug protects itself by turning its environment to gold - life - 03 February 2013 - New Scientist
It looks like a King Midas is real after all, but in the form of bacteria. Research from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario have found a bacteria called Delftia acidovorans and it secretes a chemical that protects itself against toxic gold ions. The chemical called delftibactin A detoxifies and changes gold ions into unreactive gold nanoparticles outside the bacteria cell. This discovery can lead to identifying gold-rich environments and ultimately gold extraction.
