Gene Therapy Cures Diabetic Dogs
Gene therapy cures diabetic dogs - health - 12 February 2013 - New Scientist
Another step closer to curing type 1 diabetes in humans! A study on 5 diabetic dogs showed that after been given 2 extra genes, they no longer needed insulin injections. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which insulin secreting cells are destroyed. The way that the gene therapy works is that two genes are injected into the dogs muscle by a harmless virus to replace the damaged pancreatic beta cells. One of the genes produces the insulin and the other determines how much glucose should be absorbed into the muscles. Dogs that only received one of the genes remained diabetic so both are needed for the treatment to work. More evidence is needed to be tested in humans.

Black History: Civil Rights Act of 1964
February 10 - 1964,
After 10 days of debate and voting on 125 amendments, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by a vote of 290-130. It was not a law yet but merely passed to the senate. On June 19, 1964, the bill was passed by the Senate (73-27), approved by both houses of Congress, and signed into law on July 2, 1964. The bill prohibited any state or local government or public facility from denying access to anyone because of race or ethnic origin.

Bug Turns Environment to Gold
Bug protects itself by turning its environment to gold - life - 03 February 2013 - New Scientist
It looks like a King Midas is real after all, but in the form of bacteria. Research from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario have found a bacteria called Delftia acidovorans and it secretes a chemical that protects itself against toxic gold ions. The chemical called delftibactin A detoxifies and changes gold ions into unreactive gold nanoparticles outside the bacteria cell. This discovery can lead to identifying gold-rich environments and ultimately gold extraction.

New Scientist TV: Rewinding reality: How you can change the past
Our reality is defined by what we CHOOSE to see. I like to apply this to my well being. I don't like to focus on the negative influences around me. I'd rather CHOOSE to see and count all the blessings in my life. I CHOOSE to see the cup half full therefore I CHOOSE to be happy. =)

Fashionable Fascism
This bitch, Coco Chanel, built her empire using Nazi connections and on the backs of Jewish property and businesses. I am not taking away from the fact that she was a talented, passionate and hard working but all respect has been lost like a professional athlete that uses steroids. However, Chanel was not the only company to profit from the Nazi regime as companies like IBM, Hugo Boss and especially Ford Motor benefited as well. This is a microcosm of the capitalist society we live in today. Businesses are fueled by greed and have no breaks for morality. Fuck a hand bag and your dyslexic "C". Scuse my French.
